A low-tech Bank robbery worth 75 million Rupees

It happened in a bank very near my home in Kerala. In a plot reminding that of films, a group of thieves robbed the bank to escape with an estimated amount of over 75 million Indian rupees.

The bank was in the second floor of a building. The ground floor had an hotel. The hotel was up for sale. This gang took the hotel for rent by giving an advance payment of about 50,000 INR. They hung a board in the front saying that the hotel was under repair. It also said that the hotel will open on January 8. To make things more convincing, they even bought new furniture to the hotel. They also brought many construction materials to the site. On sunday night, they made a big enough hole in the cieling to the strong room of the bank and took away gold and cash kept there. They didn’t however even try to open the locker. All the money they took was from some iron safes in the strong room which they cut open using gas cutters.

And as in any other sensible bank robbery, it was done on sunday. No phone call records. No leads. No evidence. Nothing. But Kerala police have a very good track recod in crime investigation, So I will give an update once the culpricts are caught.

Living in a world of spam, phishing, password cracking, network hacking etc, for once I forgot the fact that there are crimes offline too.
