I am not talking about the bells and whistles.
I have been using Windows 7 for the past few days and it looks like this is going to be a great Operating System from Microsoft.

The UI looks similar to that of Vista, but with a lot of tweaks. The new taskbar is exciting as well.
The main feature of Windows 7 I liked is that it lets you do your work the way you wish and it gets out of your way. Windows 7 makes doing your job easy. Performance wise it is better than Vista. Hardware support is also great and I did not have to install any drivers in my Acer laptop.
There are many other exciting features in the software. You can read more about these all over the web. Also remember to visit the Windows 7 development blog. The blog tells the exciting story of building a great operating system. It is a must read blog for programmers/designers.
Windows 7 is already getting a huge amount good press. People are giving positive reviews. Microsoft should be excited by this.
Currently a pre-beta test build for windows 7 is in circulation in the file sharing networks. You will have to do a bit of hacking to get the new taskbar enabled.

Download Windows 7 and check it out. You will surely fall in love with it too.
Is it a safe link to download? I mean, is it a official release? I read about this at pallab
http://www.pallab.net/2008/07/25/everything-you-wanted-to-know-about-windows-7/
yea, seems pretty awesome.
I am very happy to heard good news about a Microsoft product after a long time.
Anand,
Yes, it is an official release from the PDC 2008. Remember that it is just for testing purposes.
Anish,
True. We all feel the warmth.
LoL im guessing someone got a free laptop…
Curtisbeef,
Keep guessing.
Windows 7 is almost Identical to Vista… and the benchmarks prove it…
I think this review puts it best.

“Bottom line: So far, Windows 7 looks, behaves, and performs almost exactly like Windows Vista. And it breaks all sorts of things that used to work just fine under Vista. In other words, Microsoft’s follow-up to its most unpopular OS release since Windows Me threatens to deliver zero measurable performance benefits while introducing new and potentially crippling compatibility issues.”
Curtisbeef,
Look at the votes for/against the article you linked to. Try to read the comments from others. It looks like the author of the above mentioned article is purely biased.
Is this something newer than Vista? Never heard of this one before.
OK… First of I’m not a MS fan boy, I use Ubuntu and Debian for most of my work; However, I have always had windows installed on a laptop for software that is not avaliable for linux (mostly Photoshop and Multitrack recording). Now in my experence Windows XP is a fair OS, it runs well and seems to be reliable, if maintained correctly, Vista on the other hand is terriable. I have tried an tried to use Vista but cannot seem to get things stable enought to make it useful.
I have a friend that let me try out Windows 7 (build 7000) on one of his spare laptops (1.7Ghz Centrino with 1.5GB ram). I have to admit this does not seem like the same OS as Vista, sure it does share some of vista’s visuals but none of the slowness and frequent system crashes. I would be more willing to use Windows if this is how the end product performes.
Jason,
Thanks for sharing.
Im posting from a laptop using Microsofts official Beta… and damn its F’ing awesome. It detected everything without any issues, Connected to my wireless with NO ISSUES! Everything is fast, hell Firefox actually starts FAST!
In other words, if they can stay at this level or,gods willing, improve, I will literally go buy this OS on Day 1.
Vista was nice, but had so many issues that got in the way. As a gamer it was always glaringly obvious that vista hated me. Im hoping Windows 7 will restore my faith in Windows gaming.
This OS is killer. I run about 10 comps on a network all having XP or Vista and read the warnings of many that “THIS BETA SHOULD NOT BE USED TO REPLACE YOUR CURRENT WORK OS YET” not true – Thats bullshit- This OS in beta is more stable and easier to use than any of my xps or vistas. There are like 2 or three things that seem like bugs I found but that is because I work very fast. Working fast and multi——————tasking shreds xp and vista and 7 stands up well. Love it. Period.
I was not sure to run the beta on my machine. I didnt want to screw up my XP machine when it runs ok.
Last friday i got a Hard Drive for testing and holy s–t its great!!!
Not only it boots faster than XP, it detected almost all of my hardware (Realtek Audio being the only exception). For a modest setup (1 GB RAM, 3GHz P4) it runs smoothly and i’ve had no problems until now. This OS is really going the right way, bravo Microsoft.
PS: not a MS fanboy, i just like the OS
This os id fuC*ing great..
Finally MS did it after the vista crap..
I love the lightning speed if offers on my old comp.. I used vista also on this comp and it sucked big time.. But this is great..
GOOD JOB MS..
yeah i really love this new OS im running it dual boot on my windows media center desktop with xp and i loved it so much i got rid of vista on the laptop and installed this! but i got rid of the watermarks and send feedback on the task bar
your fuckin crazy if you hate on windows 7 beta. I have a gaming comp then went from always running like shit on xp, to finally something that can utilize my memory etc. The installation was painless for once as well. Directx 11 is that shit. Everything works like its supposed to? And dont get me wrong i never went to anything other then xp cause it wasnt worth it. But microsoft is catchin up a lil with 7 or blackcomb wtver theyll call it
I have to say, I just finished installing 7, and I am in love. Though I may be overly optimistic, it looks like the open-source culture has finally spurred MS into producing a fantastic product. 7 is sure to be the OS that everyone expected of Vista (and honestly, I didn’t have any problems with Vista), I only hope that MS doesn’t squat on their laurels.
Windows 7 is the best operating system I have ever used. All u gotta do it go to msconfig and set alerts to zero and its freaking perfect, no interruptions, super fast and sexy . microsoft recovered greatly from their disaster we all know as vista. peace from the middle east.
Windows 7 is the best OS to grace Microsoft’s Windows line since Windows 2000. I am running Windows 7 RC 32-bit on an IBM ThinkPad T43, 1.5GB RAM, Pentium M@2.00GHz ATI X300 64MB (128mb with hypermemory enabled) and it is running very very smoothly. I’ve had zero lag so far. Everything is very well appointed and polished. I rigged my laptop up as a Windows XP/Windows 7 multi boot system. Windows 7 boots up in about 22 seconds.
just to let everyone know:
you had a horrible time with vista because you didnt have the recommended hardware specs
you should AT LEAST have 2 gigs of RAM but I recommend 4
dont hate on a perfectly fine OS just because you’re too cheap to get a decent pc
